16 MAR 2011 - MICHAEL ESSIEN YOUTH VOCATION
The Michael Essien Foundation as part of its commitment to help the Youth of Awutu have launched the Michael Essien 'Youth Vocation' where 5 young adults are being supported financially to learn to be auto mechanics, hair dressers and seamstresses to be able to help the community
One of the Objectives of the Foundation is to help support the Youth as well as suppoert community projects and this annual initiative will certainly give the 5 individuals a chance to learn a vocation and go on to utilise it for the good of the community.
Once they complete their chosen vocations it is expected that they will start their own business or join existing businesses and will help provide employment in the area
16 NOV 2010 - Bore hole & Toilet facilities launched
Michael Essien was in Ghana with his Foundation to take part in activities dubbed 'A Day With Michael Essien'. The Ghanaian star took the opportunity to open a water bore hole in the centre of the town, funded by his foundation. Michael decided to provide the bore hole for the community to help with their water needs and to also help prevent any unfortunate incidents. Michael lost his brother who fell down a water hole fetching water for his family long before he was born and didnt want any family to suffer that misfortune
Michael also opened a ten seater toilet facility for the people of Awutus to help with the sanitational needs of the people. It is important the people are healthy and fit to go about their daily lives and a toilet facility will help eliminate any hygiene problems leaving the citizens fit and healthy
31 MAY 2010 - Books Launched
Michael Essien Foundation, in association with the Ghana Ministry of Education, Pearson Education and Chelsea Football Club has launched a project dubbed, "Reading Goals" to inculcate reading habit in basic pupils.
To this end, three books with interesting contents on the Ghanaian international football hero, Michael Essien, the 2010 World Cup and the events and history surrounding the previous World Cups, have been launched to ensure the success of the project.
The books were developed by the Pearson Education, a global education services provider, in partnership with SEDCO Longman, its local partner.
The Pearson-SEDCO Longman group, has made available 90,000 copies of the books to Ghana's Central Regional Education Directorate, to be freely distributed to upper primary pupils to ensure that the project, which also aims at increasing literacy levels through a professional approach, succeeds.
In subsequent months it is hoped we will extend the books to other basic schools across the country. |
